About. World Series Champions 2006. St Louis won their
first World Series in 24 years by beating the Detroit Tigers in Game
Five on 27 October. The 4-2 victory gave the Cardinals a 4-1 lead in the
best-of-seven game contest.
The St. Louis Cardinals are one of the most celebrated
clubs in all of baseball. In 1899, the St. Louis Browns became the St.
Louis Perfectos - for a while. Due to their new red uniforms fans
quickly started calling them the Cardinals. This was made official the
following year.
Stadium.
Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis is the Cardinals home. It has a seating capacity
of 49,676 and was the best ballpark in the US when it opened its doors
back in
1964. The ballpark has a picnic area in left centre field, and a club
restaurant and bar. Most fans would probably say that they still
like and enjoy Busch Stadium, but despite this the owners have ambitions
to build a new stadium with a completion date in 2006.
