About. The Cubs have been around since
1874. They used to be called White
Stockings, then the Colts, and after that, the Orphans. They have won the world series twice. The 'Cubs'
name was made official back in 1902
and was officially adopted in 1907. In 1921 the team were bought by a Mr.
Wrigley - A local chewing gum manufacturer who invested
thousands in the team. They Cubs play out of the world famous
Wrigley Field which has a seating capacity of 38,884.
Stadium.
Wrigley Field was
built in 1914 and still remains one of the sports most old-fashioned parks. Wrigley Field has
never allowed advertising boards, so big companies spend a lot of money
placing their ads on nearby buildings. Fans known as 'Ballhawks' wait
outside, strategically placed to catch homeruns during the game. Fans can
also be seen on roofs of buildings
around the stadium on game day. An abundance of ivy covers the walls in the
outfield. Changing the scoreboard is still a manual task and fans still
sit on traditional 'bleachers'.
