About.
In 1962, the teams first season, the Mets - short for
Metropolitans - posted a league-worst
record. But seven years later the so-called 'Miracle' Mets of 1969 shocked
the baseball world by defeating the heavily favoured Baltimore Orioles in
the World Series.
Stadium. The Mets play at Shea Stadium
in Flushing, New York. Shea opened it's doors for the first time in 1964
and it remains
a very nice place to watch a baseball game - even with the
airplanes landing and taking off constantly at the nearby LaGuardia Airport. The Mets
Magic Hat sits behind the centre field fence. When the Mets hit a home run, a
'big apple' rises out of the hat.
UK punk legends, The
Clash also had a huge hit at Shea - see their 'Should I Stay or Should I
Go' video. |
