About. The San Diego
Padres are still without a world series title. Founded in 1969, the Padres
lost in two attempts,
in 1984 and 1998. The San Diego Padres' biggest rivalry is with
the Dodgers.
Stadium. Petco
Park opened for business in April 2004 with the Padres opening match against the Giants. The
ballpark is built from stucco, brick, and steel and costs $411 million. At
the stadiums enterance are palm courts, water walls, and
jacaranda trees. Once inside fans have an excellent
view with all 46,000 seats strategically positioned to face the pitcher.
Directly behind the centerfield
is an area known as 'beach'. This is where fans can lie back on the ground
to watch the action. It was very generous of the Padres to build the 'Park at the Park'.
It is an elevated manicured park where fans can kick back in lawn
chairs and watch the game free of charge.
