About. Named after Minnesota’s Twin
Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, the club plays at the Metrodome in Minneapolis which can
hold nearly 49,000. The club started out as the Washington Senators. Since
becoming the Minnesota Twins in 1961, they've won the World
Series twice.
Stadium. The stadium opened in 1982 and over the past two decades,
it has
changed very little. The dome is made up of an air supported fiberglass,
fabric roof. A 340 ton cover for the dome is held in place by air pressure
generated fans and by steel cables. The roof has snow melting ducts to
prevent a collapse. Despite this in 1982, the dome did fall. Currently, the Twins would like to have a
new baseball stadium built in either the Minneapolis or St. Paul area. |
