Stanley cup champions
2008. The Detroit Red Wings are
one of the most dominating hockey teams in history, creating what some
called a 'dynasty' in the 1990s.
They've one the Stanley Cup 11 times since
1936, with their most recent win in 2008. The Red Wings are the third team
in NHL history to have double-digit championships. The Montreal Canadiens
have 23 and the Toronto Maple Leafs 13.
It is not uncommon for an octopus to be thrown on to the ice at a Red
Wings game - as a salute to the team. The first appeared during the Red
Wings' 1952 Stanley Cup run, courtesy of a couple of brothers from a local
fish shop. The octopus has eight tentacles, and in those days it took
eight playoff wins to claim the Stanley Cup..?
